    DENY GLOVES

No: you should never machine wash your goalkeeper gloves. The drum, heat, and detergent damage the palm's latex and drastically shorten your gloves' lifespan. The correct method is gentle hand washing in lukewarm water. We'll explain everything.

Why washing machines are forbidden for your gloves

The latex of a goalkeeper glove is a living, fragile material, designed to grip the ball—not to withstand a spin cycle. When machine-washed, it suffers three aggressions simultaneously:

    • The heat of the water and spin cycle hardens the latex and causes it to crack.
    • Detergent and fabric softeners leave a chemical film that clogs the pores of the latex: this is exactly what makes a glove "lose its stickiness."
    • The friction of the drum tears off the grip layer and deforms the cut.

The result: a pair that could have lasted a season can be ruined after a single machine wash. A tumble dryer is even worse—don't even think about it.

The right way to wash your goalkeeper gloves

Proper cleaning takes two minutes and should be done by hand:

    • Rinse the palms with lukewarm water (never hot) immediately after the match or training, before mud and dirt become ingrained.
    • Gently rub the palm with your fingers to remove residue. No hard brushes, no abrasive sponges.
    • If necessary, use a little mild soap (like Marseille soap) or a specific glove wash. Absolutely no laundry detergent or household cleaning products.
    • Rinse with clear water until there is no more foam.
    • Gently squeeze to remove water—never twist the gloves to wring them out, as this will break the latex.

    Drying, as important as washing

A good wash ruined by bad drying is useless. Always let your gloves dry flat, in the shade, at room temperature, palm facing up. Absolutely avoid radiators, hair dryers, and direct sunlight: these are what harden and crack the latex. Slow, natural drying is what preserves the grip.

How often should you clean your gloves?

A light rinse after each use is enough to remove dirt and sweat. A more thorough wash with mild soap occasionally, when the palm is truly dirty, does the rest. The real secret to longevity isn't to wash hard, it's to wash gently and often, and to dry them well between sessions. If you play several times a week, alternating two pairs allows each pair time to dry—and doubles their lifespan.

    In summary

Never machine wash, never tumble dry, never use detergent. Lukewarm water, mild soap, dry flat in the shade. It's as simple as that, and it makes all the difference to the lifespan of your gloves.
